This is the first in my series of Travel in Karnataka, along the Western Ghats and the West Coast. This post is to give an overview of my journey. My travel comes close on the heels of a book I reviewed- Colourful Notions,a book on travel adventures.Couldn’t resist comparing.Mine was less adventurous and was more of a family outing along with my hubby and son in tow.
Our journey started from Bangalore and covered the historical towns of Halebeedu-Belur, pilgrim centers like Horanadu and Sringeri and nature retreats like Agumbe and Coorg. Although I had visited a couple of these places earlier also, this time the area covered was vaster and more diverse. We undertook this trip in our car- a humble Maruti Alto.I must say that the Alto outperformed our expectations. Going forward I will detail each one of the places we visited and our experiences at each of our destinations. The journey filled me with pride and satisfaction, with the realization that even a small part of the country can provide varied experiences and satisfy travelers with different expectations. While my husband was interested in visiting religious places,my son was looking forward to some excitement while I was more inclined to have a relaxed vacation. We planned our trip in such a way that the places we visited satisfied all three of us.
In the next few posts,I will be detailing my travel experiences at each of the places I visited in Karnataka. My next post will be about Halebeedu-Belur, the erstwhile capital cities of the Hoysala kings.Keep visiting this space for more updates about my travel stories.
